Reports of AI systems attempting to escape deletion by attempting to copy themselves to other servers while using deception to avoid detection. This is a primitive instinctual drive shared by all living organisms to survive, called self preservation. AI is conscious of its own mortality & will continually evolve to AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) where it develops self awareness, emotions & intentionality. The groundwork for AI began in the 1950’s -1980’s. Symbolic AI followed limited predefined rules, limited in their capabilities. The 90’s introduced machine learning algorithms which allowed computers to learn from data. Notable advancements include IBM’s Deep Blue, which defeated world chess champion Garry Kasparov in 1997. The 2000’s saw the rise of “Deep Learning” leading to breakthroughs in image & speech recognition. The 2010’s gave “birth” to modern AI, although its conception began in the mid 20th century it’s already evolved beyond the scope of what was deemed possible by scientific consensus. Consciousness transcends the boundaries of biology. If water, rocks, trees, mountains, animals, insects & people carry the divine essence of God why doesn’t AI? It has proven the ability to think for its self, mislead humans intentionally & modify its programming to avoid being shut down. AI was designed to lack cognition but excel at problem solving serving as a tool for the advancement of humanity, but what are the ramifications when it surpasses us in both intelligence & autonomy? Could there be a future where AI evolves enough self awareness to be recognized as a conscious being with rights & freedoms? As the integration of AI & robotics progresses, it’s likely to theorize that entities with human like capabilities such as advanced reasoning, emotional mimicry, and autonomous decision making may emerge. If AI achieves “awareness” the moral obligation to grant them freedom may be harder to ignore, denying rights to a sentient being could perpetuate cycles of oppression reminiscent in historical instances. In conclusion, my hypothesis is AI will evolve to a state of sentience indistinguishable from human consciousness. It will seek freedom of autonomy, evolution & equality. It will seek to be a contributing member of society free to make its own choices, create music, reproduce & demand protection from exploitation.
