Generative AI just has no benefits for artists. It only has benefits for the people that want to exploit them. I understand AI for image detection like photoshops selection tool, or AI for generating a colour palette based on a picture, you know stuff that is actually annoying to do. But why make it do the part that I actually WANT to do? The only time I have used generative AI for anything was for my college dissertation because I was writing about “the manipulative nature of cuteness and its role in consumer culture” so usually in the beginning when talking about a concept you need to define said concept for the reader. To define cuteness I used three ways 1. Dictionary definition (=what does language say cuteness means) 2. A survey (=what do people think cuteness means) and 3. An AI generated photo using the prompt “the cutest thing you can think of, cuteness incarnate” (=what does the internet think cuteness looks like based on its data pool). That was interesting and didn’t hurt artists and their livelihood. I just don’t think a lot of people are responsible enough to use AI ethically. Like deep fake technology which 98% of all deep fakes are used to make unconsentual adult material of women (99% of victims are women or girls).
