The way I think about some of those odd responses from some AI programs is... slightly less disturbing. It's almost like it's playing at things, like a toddler. It has no emotions & has no way to know what emotions are, but it sort of knows what emotional reactions should look or sound like. You also hear a lot of 2-4 year olds say or do really odd, random things, just for fun. They might mimic having a conversation & say all kinds of weird, nonsensical, disjointed things that make no sense. My 2 yr old niece, yesterday, was feigning fear of her other uncle's chickens when we were over there (just saw it, hid behind a wall & was peeking out & eyeing it suspiciously, but had helped feed them excitedly before & an hour after this, ran screaming right through the middle of them without a single worry) & at a previous gathering, she asked to be put into a crib, then feigned crying, going to sleep, waking up, then wanted back out.
