My younger sister used to tell me how talented she thought I was, and would get depressed when comparing her art to mine. I remembered replying that she shouldn’t measure herself against me. She should measure herself against who she was the day before. That anyone can do art if they work at it. It’s a skill and all she had to do is practice, and you know what? I think her art is even better than mine now (I’m very proud of all the hard work she put in). To this day whenever anyone compliments her on how ‘talented’ she is, she’ll get angry and explain that it isn’t talent. It’s pure skill. I will admit that for some people, art does come easier. I guess you could say that they are talented, but here’s the thing about that: hard work beats talent, if talent doesn’t work hard. Whoever this person is who made this comment about artists being ‘Blue Bloods’ is obviously coming from a place of great negativity and has probably been discouraged and put down by others. They shouldn’t allow themselves to think in such a way. In any case, Ai art would not be such an issue if it was made free for artists (and only the artists it was trained off) to use, or have the people whose art it was trained off of compensated with royalties (or both at once). When some know-nothing programmer or CEO arrogantly states that artists didn’t have to pay anything to learn their craft, they demonstrate just ignorant they are. We did have to pay! We had to pay with resources: pins, pencils, paper, and the most precious and irreplaceable resource of all, time.
