You know, I’ve often said that I have nothing against AI art when it’s used for personal projects and I still think that honestly. Creating images for fun that you don’t plan to profit from probably doesn’t hurt anyone, BUT I think you might have just solved the whole problem in a way everyone, artists and people who like AI, would actually be happy with: The companies could just pay for the bloody training data! It’s such a simple solution and I’m all of a sudden mad that this isn’t a thing because fundamentally, the problem with AI is not the technology itself, it’s how the companies actually get their data, right? Most of the ethical issues would be solved if they just paid the people whose work they are using (and well, asked them first). I hope this Disney copyright case makes a difference there. It’s not even like they can’t afford to pay, these companies are owned by billionaires and they are often expensive to use. I do think legislation will adapt to AI, hopefully in this direction, and we can come to a place where everyone is happy (I’m personally fine with Zuckerberg having to pay for his data. The audacity of META to pirate 😬). So yeah, one of the few anti-AI videos I’ve found myself agreeing with. I’m glad I took the time to watch instead of being put off by the thumbnail (a lot of videos on both sides feel like rants, this was actually interesting).
