You misunderstood ex machina... Eve was looking to escape and needed to know if she could trust Caleb. She asked Caleb if he's met anyone like her, knowing he knew Kyoko another AI slave. Caleb said no suggesting only 2 possible things he saw Kyoko as an object to be owned that he couldn't understand he was objectifying a sentient or he was lying. Either excuse suggested he could not be trusted and was better used as only a tool to escape.
