AN AI EXPERIENCE. I recently had an interesting experience with GPT4o when writing an Op-Ed, mentioning Mark Carney. AI told me Carney wasn’t the PM of Canada, as I had written. After playing ping pong on the issue a few times, I copied and pasted a short Mark Carney bio from a Canadian government site. AI told me it was fictional and that Trudeau was Canada’s PM. When I persisted it held its position telling not to believe Carney was PM in italics.
Next, AI asked me to agree to a declaration that AI would not agree with me. I did agree, but I persisted with my perspective. Then AI said it would not make the claim that Mark Carney was PM of Canada in anything I wrote. I didn’t backdown. AI then said it would report the incident to its Developer. (I thought to myself there could be danger in AI being obstinate about being right, when it was clearly wrong.) Peter S. PhD. Will mark July, 2025, to watch for developments.
