Investors tend to just invest; they don't necessarily investigate the project. The quickening pace of AI development was enough to convince the people making the decisions regarding which firms to invest in. I'm assuming that Microsoft and meta and others invest quite frequently in these types of projects every year more than once a year too. The only good news is that these investors have to money to stop these people from stealing even more money from smaller investors but I'm sure the smaller investors are the ones who lost the most and will continue to do so.
