Yes, It is incredibly different. When data is shoved into these training algorithms, it tweaks another algorithm until its output is near indistinguishable from its input. (Creating pictures of cats by tracing AI on cats). It’s an algorithm, and if we really wanted to, completely deterministic (entropy takes care of this, but I’m not entirely sure how that works). Meanwhile human inspiration isn’t trying to replicate, it’s trying to learn. Artists find their style, and almost always, their style becomes their own little creative way of art. AI lacks this, it lacks the messiness of the human mind, it lacks the ability to reflect on what’s come before and what’s to come. The “Human Element” to art is hard to nail down, and I’m not qualified to say what that is, but art loses that element as soon as it’s done by a machine. AI will eventually get to the point where true inspiration becomes possible, but DALL-E and StableDiffusion haven’t met that bar yet. They could in the future, but not yet. When it does, I’m not sure if the machine will be distinguishable from the human, but I’m not going to think about that right now.
