You forgot one last thing that has to be true for this to actually work long term. There needs to be an actual product that someone wants to buy, that someone with income still can buy, that these companies which are left will be producing. Otherwise it relies on people just handing each other the same stack of money for the sake of continuing this thought experiment.
If 25% of the country stops buying anything other than basic necessities then even the landlord in this story is on food stamps because unless he’s a big corporate investor with 5000 rentals, he probably also lost his day job to AI. A lot of politicians would probably be losing their jobs come Election Day.
If elections were rigged to prevent regulation then this is a country with lots of guns. There’s just no way that turmoil on that scale would just be tolerated. Dislike that statement all you want but Luigi Mangione is proof that people wouldn’t just accept it.
