Your brain does the same thing as this AI. If I see beautiful architecture and create a beautiful painting featuring that architecture, does that mean I am ripping off the architects? Hardly. Surely I’m making a derivative work.
But if you don’t want your work to be copied, then you should never display it to anyone, human or computer. And that just defeats the purpose of creating something that was meant to be shared in the first place.
I say don’t dwell on it too much. As long as you are making good art and sharing your story with the world, the AI-produced derivatives are just going to be a fad.
