Tracing as a whole is a terrible practice. But in the case of AI, it is impossible to legally copyright it. Since they are not posting the AI straight out of engine and selling it (they are actually turning it into something else), I don't see the problem. It is almost the same as taking a reference online for a pose or an expression. At the end of the day, I would rather someone trace AI pictures than artwork from actual artists.
