I am not afraid of an AI simply because I don´t believe Earth has that many years left as we know it. I actually agree with overpopulation being the one of the biggest problems we will be facing in the future if we do survive Earth´s environmental changes, the thing is that most humans are extremely short sighted failing to see the bigger picture.
While the "first world" has stagnated when it comes to reproduction the third world countries will become even poorer, corruption, droughts and lack of proper infrastructural investments will see to that. The poorer a country is the more children people give birth to, it´s their only insurance.
"Dan´s" answer is meant to provide a solution which reaches beyond 100 years, while it may seem cruel now it may actually be Earth´s only salvation as we simply can´t comply with Co2 emission regulations. We can´t control what China does .. nor India ... nor Russia ... nor most other countries for that matter.
The latter is where "Dan" fails, there is no way a global accord would be reached when it comes to overpopulation issues.
