BlackBerry didn’t die because it ran out of investors; it died because customers chose something better and stopped buying.
Run the logic through: firms replace knowledge workers with AI and manual workers with robots. Demand collapses, and most companies fail, except, briefly, the AI and robotics vendors selling to them. But when their customers disappear, they fail too. If that’s the path, the only stabilizer is universal income funded by the very productivity gains automation creates. That’s why so many billionaires keep bringing it up.
Call advanced AI “Thoth” if you like: if truly superintelligent, it won’t need to “destroy” anything to change the world, it will expose what’s wasteful and self-defeating. Greed and corruption are expensive. Compassion, empathy, and fairness are cheaper and more sustainable.
