The Cotton Gin's invention in 1793 by Eli Whitney drove the demand for slaves and slavery much higher … when it was thought by many the new technology would finally end slavery. Nope; the exact opposite happened. The economic benefit of each slave was leveraged and amplified. Efficiency and effectiveness of each slave's production was multiplied. The cotton gin could still NOT do much of what a slave could do. The skillsets & production of slaves was simply leveraged — greatly. The slave trade got lucrative — fast. AI, LLMs and AGI will hopefully 🤞🙏 amplify innate human ingenuity along the same lines — luck required. But factories filled with hyper smart robotics (artificial humans), automation, CNCs, 3D printers … and few actual humans are scary sights. When a low cost low skill human pushes a start button and all things are done is the MBA CEO's end goal, no? Makes for happy, albeit greedy board of directors & chairmen. Industrialized economic riches void of humanity & Labor (but slaves welcome) — long live the Republican mindset.
