I already got an all too real brush with ai that showed me how screwed we all are about 2 years ago now. It started with targeted ads on the open web. Breast cancer ads of all types-medications, wigs, clothing. (It was happening so often and with every ad that I mentioned it to my husband.) Nobody I knew was going thru it, we weren’t discussing it, wasn’t searching it there wasn’t a need. This came out of the blue and it started about 6 months, give or take, before lockdown happened. That is significant because that’s when I found my lump. Being it was lockdowns, at least in my state, I was sol for nearly a year. Finally had my lumpectomy on August 13th, 2021. Surgeon gave us all clear at post op, my PET scan was clear, all good. Except, targeted ads on YouTube now, every ad was for metastatic breast cancer. Which I told my husband again, we’re not out of the woods. I was diagnosed with stage 4 right before Thanksgiving this past year. Doing ok, though! Started on immunotherapy and it seems to be working. I’m beating it. What do I think happened? It’s pretty easy. I also have a kidney disease that I get regularly tested for and monitoring. Google is in the backend of everything. Absolutely every industry and company you can imagine. Environmental, medical, genealogical. I think the ai just put it together. Or, my blood at some point was entered into a research project where the tumor markers were found, ai cross referencing my name had it come out in advertising. It’s certainly not voodoo. This gives some seriously creepy possibilities about our future, how much the ai knows us, knows about us, can link together. But, if you start getting random, weird targeted ads pay attention. Ai knows something you don’t.
