Personally I don’t think that humans will ever be able to create an AI that genuinely thinks for itself and can form conscious thoughts. Remember, AIs are literally just systematically generated algorithms. They’re literally computer programs just written with trial and error instead of by a programmer. Consciousness in my opinion is the minuscule spark of order in a universe commanded by entropy. Not just consciousness but it’s precursor too, the formation of life . If you think about it, evolution is the only system in the entire universe (to our knowledge) that tends AWAY from entropy. As evolution continues more and more advanced beings are literally created from abiotic matter. Humans take it to the next level. As someone who’s explored many religions one quote that sticks out to me especially in this context is a verse from the Bible that says that man is made in the image and likeness of God. When I first read that it didn’t make sense to me. We’re just weak little vessels of flesh roaming around in this rock, how could we be made in the literal image of the supposed creator of the universe. More thought on this led me to the realization that Humans too are creators. If you think about it, Humans have literally shaped the world how they wanted, we build impossibly beautiful and complex structures and architectural feats, the human conscious is a sole spark of order in a universe of chaos. Within every single person is the most powerful pattern recognition tool that has ever existed or ever will exist. Your hands are the very same hands that were used to shape the earth. Every single human is so rare and so valuable in this universe that the cost of every life is basically priceless. Humanity and life in general are the only things in the entire universe that can’t be built, can’t be replicated by some technology.
