hey so lets talk about it: the #1 reason for 2 vehicle motorcycle accidents is the bike being rear ended. You know, by other humans. How many such accidents have happened in the same timeframe? Same approach to driving, similar weaknesses? Why don't we also talk about all the people saved by autopilot by the Automatic Emergency Breaking (AEB) feature? there's compilations of that stopping for pedestrians popping out from between cars and at intersections when cross traffic runs red lights. Why don't we talk about the people that have fallen asleep in their cars only to be saved by autopilot instead of running into stuff? The sad reality is that we expect an evolving AI project to be 100% perfect when we know humans aren't. We have lots of data points suggesting that it's already saving lives where humans would have failed, but humans are wired to be much more interested in the failure cases. "journalists" like you make money off clicks while slowing down the development of a safety system that is already showing real world results.
