About the point that social media act as echo chambers and constantly confirm our biases, I think that this has always been the case. Every newspaper, article or piece of information that we are being fed without actively choosing to look for it has been publicized by someone with an intent, a motivation, whether it has been to reassure people, manipulate markets, encourage social activism and so on. Some messages, whether we like it or not, are not conform with the socioeconomic norms of a society and were automatically discarded from publication. Competition and lobbyism were also always filtering the news we were reading too. It's just that now, corporates started playing that game for attention retention and financial benefits, so we are being manipulated and echo chambered from everywhere
