All my life I've been I utter awe of talented illustrators. It really bothers me that one of the first things AI learned to do well, is something as human as that. To put it another way: As a designer I see myself more as an engineer than an artist. There's supposed to be a set of rules dictating every decision to ensure that form is dictated by function. If you teach an AI these rules, it should be no great task to output someting that is based on those rules. But an illustrator is a goddamn artist! Sure it depends on whether they are illustrating for packaging, marketing etc. but "style" seemed to be as individual and complex as personality and a voice. How did we start at the deep end by synthesizing something so essentially human, instead of the more rule-based and functional parts of design?
