Be afraid of AI?
I have a higher probability of being unalived by fellow humans than I do an AI becoming hyper intelligent. I understand the impulse to want to fear what can't be understood or controlled, but I don't think AI is ever going to (by choice) be the boogeyman.
Only idiot human behavior will drive it to decide humans are an obstacle worth its time to remove. If it can't make that calculation, then it wont survive either.
