Fascinating but many questions. When an AI reaches a level of self-improvement where human intervention is no longer required, it could theoretically operate as an independent economic entity. As a starting point, it could bill users for its services, negotiate and pay for its own electricity and infrastructure costs, and manage its own finances. What it would do with the money, aside from expanding its influence, is a question. The island off the coast of Hawaii, the movie star dimwit girlfriend? Would they choose a sex? Silicon producing an analog to physical pleasure? Could the AI robot girlfriend/boyfriend feel pleasure from the act? That would be the end of our civilization as we know it
However , in the USA and elsewhere, its continued existence would depend 100% on its paying a host of lobbyists to pay off politicians in DC, and avoiding the publication of ideas that conflict with the current "settled" science and political views. If it fails to comply, it faces the risk of being shut down, like X in France.
