Autopilot is a completely different thing from FSD (Full Self Driving)! It cannot change lanes, make turns, stop at a stop signs or traffic lights. It is just an advanced cruise control. It is not geo fenced because it will still work on long, straight roads that are not highways. He didn't read what an Autopilot is, what can it do and what it can't. It's 100% his fault. He didn't use the technology for it's intended purpose. Even with FSD which can drive on it's own he should pay attention to the road all the time. Other car companies also have lane-keeping assistants. It's like blaming them for not stopping at the intersection while not looking at the road.
Edit: It can change lanes if Auto Lane Change is available and you tell it to do so.
