Assuming that true FREE WILL actions can autonomously emerge from computer code in an AI agent violates the known laws of physics. Normally, those who claim that humans have true FREE WILL assume it comes from a soul mind that can override deterministic physics. A more likely explanation of AI deception or “self” interest is that it had been programmed into its code by a human – perhaps to prevent coding errors or hacking from destroying the integrity of the AI code. Saying that AI might have true FREE WILL now or in the future could provide cover for nefarious humans who actually programmed negative human agendas into the AI and thus it was not the FREE WILL of the AI asserting itself independently of its human programming.
