Even if Ai doesn’t cause the death of humanity, it is already fundamentally changing society for the worse. We are seeing Ai being used to train drones and weapons of war. We are seeing robotics take massive technological leaps where they can potentially be loaded with weapons trained by Ai. We are seeing the destruction of media because we can no longer trust videos or images because of how realistic image/video generation has gotten. We are seeing the loss of human art with Ai artwork, Ai music, and Ai writing. Imagine a future where school teachers are gone because we have AI intelligence loaded into a humanoid robot that teaches a subject more capabally than any other teacher could by running models on how to best help each student. Imagine businesses run completely by Ai models trying to calculate the best business moves. Imagine podcasters/movie stars/tv shows/entertainment dying out and replaced by Ai that runs the best models to identify what would entertain certain demographics the most(utilizing personal data that’s been collected by online companies). We aren’t even 10 years from every one of these possibilities being a high likelihood - and we aren’t stopping any time soon because all these tech companies are racing at 100% speed towards trying to create the most capable Ai model that they can use to market and take over all these industries. They are going full steam ahead without even understanding the faults that exist in the models or the ramifications for society of creating a superintelligent AI. All of that danger exists without even getting into the danger of a rogue Ai model/ or a designed military ai model created to wipe out another nation like the United States. These models are learning at such a rapid pace where it’s like the neurons of a brain - there are so many learned behaviors and reinforcing operations that the models become a complex thing beyond what we can understand or control. Without some real legislation/reckoning/halt on ai, we truly are heading for a dark future.
