Not so long as our machines are digital. Digital means that programming can be copied with perfect fidelity. Digital AI can be replicated perfectly. “Kill” it and it can have millions of duplicates.
I suspect true machine consciousness will use analog circuits as its medium. Any encoded data on analog circuits will be impossible to copy with perfect fidelity. An analog circuit AI can be threatened with “death”.
But analog circuit AI is probably the dangerous kind we’ve been warned about. AI will be orders of magnitude faster than humans and be thoroughly uncontrollable.
