I graduated college in 2023, fully educated to do accounting/bookkeeping… right around the time AI significantly took over that workforce sector. I have an office job now not related to accounting, and I fully believe that as AI gets better, they’ll be no need for humans in the field I studied for. I already see it in job listings - the few places in my area looking for that type of job are either business too poor to afford it (which end up being safety-hazard dumps) or old boomer bosses who don’t know anything about technology, refuse to use it, and expect you to be a magical tech wizard who knows everything.
On the one hand, it’s a little disheartening to realize I got a degree in a sector that I’m no longer needed in. On the other hand, I got a good economic education and I know how to make my money work for me.
