Maybe this was a Freudian slip, but the way you worded that AI Doomer narrative made me realize something. People who actually believe that society is going to be restructured so Joe Blow doesn't 'fall into poverty' either lacks a basic knowledge of the history of civilizations, or has a naive/warped understanding of modern sociology. TLDR; Technological Revolutions do cause disenfranchised workers to "fall into poverty". It causes disenfranchised workers to "rise into poverty." What's the difference? The difference is, most of my life i've lived below the poverty line. Yet even in my first world poverty; I live a life of luxury a 16th century king couldn't trade his entire kingdom for. I'm able to provide for my son a quality of medical safety that even the robber barons of the 19th century could sink their entire fortunes into providing for their children. Is AI going to exacerbate inequality? Undoubtably. But to think that means there will be a reduced quality of life for lower class people is EXTREMELY unlikely. Or what, do you think that 20 million suddenly unemployable working age people are just going sit on the side of the road looking depressed? Right, because that's how respond to MASS unemployment. I suspect people who parrot this nonsense secretly hope that's the outcome we get. Because then they'll get the revolution they're pretending wouldn't happen in the case of governments embracing such wanton disregard for the wellbeing of the general public. But that's the future we're getting. What's far more likely to happen is the elites offer us free food, homes and multiple robot maids/butlers until they've saturated the world with enough robots to engage in either selective genocide, or mass genocide of all 'useless mouths'.
