In academics, researching also requires having sources. Fair use can be damned if you used any source (especially a copyrighted one) and not even left a footnote mentioning where you got that info.
Saying it was trained off the internet is not good enough.
Using fair use to justify what is metaphorically plagiarism is not good enough.
AI is a tool, and the creators can still get sued for misuing it.
