I always think of COLOSSUS THE FORBIN PROJECT. A.I. is being adopted in many guises right now across businesses. Just look at websites for businesses and you see how they trumpet (no pun intended. Well, maybe....) how A.I. is making their systems run better, faster. They don't say how the adoption of A.I. is decimating the humans who used to work for them. Oh no. With A.I., no wages, no benefits, no messy employees. Just cold, calculating, efficient software. Before we know it, A.I. will be so into everything that it will truly gain independent thought. There is nowhere to run. I'm glad I'm 71, with more behind me than in front. What I fear for are the billions of people of all ages who will find themselves obsolete. The only bright thing I can see is that those billions will have to return to the soil, to farm and grow their own food. A.I. cannot create a flower, an ear of corn, a tree with beautiful fruit. Or a hand-drawn portrait, or a sonnet to the dawn. Or a hug between a Mother and child. These are the important things. So maybe we're not going to be obsolete. We will be to the overlords who rely more and more on the soulless for their wealth, but not to God, and not to ourselves.
