okokokokokokok, a big part she skipped over, was viewing advancements in ai technology through a production lens. As someone in the industry right now, ai isn't used too frequently, but in the places that it is used, it has been a massive help TO ARTISTS for being on time and on schedule. And 99 times out of 100 if you see ai art used in the industry I garentee you it's an explicit creative or budgetary choice made by the creatives involved as opposed to a suit in a high chair. Movies like klas and spider verse both very prominently use generative ai in different ways. Klaus with its klas generative lighting engine, and spiderverse with its generated lines. These things can be manipulated post generation but at the end of the day both of them are generative in nature. Did these movies actively intend to take away jobs? No . They had a budget, and a deadline, and figured out a creative way of achieving their vision with less compromises on pure quality. The money for more employees never existed in the first place, and instead they hired some engineers in spiderverse case, and outsourced the process in klauses place. While I can definitely see her side to things when it comes to personally being attached to art and how it affects commissions and what not, I genuinely think she misrepresented the professional side of the story. As of right now yes the industry isn't doing too hot, but that isn't really because of ai art making less jobs available, it's because every single large media franchise under the sun is tanking, and the streaming service bubble popped, and companies are still copijng with that and are moving to outsourcing. And as for the ai technica hire for wizards of the coast, the introduction of an ai engineer doesn't mean less jobs for artists, it means more jobs for engineers, to stay on budget and on time wizards is viewing that as the correct decision, but an engineer is not an artist, an engineer makes tools that artists can then use, especially in the card game and illustration field, efficiency isn't the #1 priority unlike games and film. They are in all likelihood hiring that engineer to do what the job description is saying and helping the creative team. That's my 2 cents, as a industry professional anyway. I don't think I'd all good, and it's definitely a little depressing seeing people get discouraged due to its existence. But in every interaction I've had with it professionally I genuinely don't view it as an inherently bad thing.
