Very sad.
This is sensitive but need to be stated: To prevent similar things, since these kinds of things(such as extortion) has to diminish; here is the optimistic future thanks to AI as one of the ways it will prevent these things to appear: the overflow now will lead to a common knowledge of not trusting photos / videos / audio etc that could be used like this; viewers critical thinking is awakened; a blessing since it will be seen as deep fakes; it may be the messenger that places things out of context that may be the villain.
Also more work needs to be done by allowing those in need to reach out to and ask for help too. Here AI may offer support to be nonjudgmental and guiding.
Some may think that ‘deep fakes’ also means that news reporting may be dismissed; yes. Whats anyone’s business always offers anyone to research and find out truth in ways not possible just a year ago.
