Keep up the good work! 🔥
Another reason why I don’t like AI generated art, aside from the points you made, is generation loss.
When you run an AI image through an AI generator, it will copy the mistakes. Generation by generation, the mistakes caused by copying previous mistakes build off of each other which results in a, at best, barely-coherent mess of colors and lines by the end. It’s like tracing traced images. AI image generators (at least right now) need fresh human art to mitigate this problem, but what if there are no more human artists left like what AI-bros and big companies want? You get people cutting corners already cut, AI referencing AI, and no new, truly good work gets produced.
When human artist reference art, we actually STUDY the art: learn what makes it what it is and the techniques that went into creating it. Then we apply what we learn to our own skillset. We make mistakes, sure, but we don’t get worse for making them. Drawing something over and over should make the artist better at what they’re drawing.
Now, there is one point that AI-bros are trying to make that I somewhat agree with: faster work. Now, do I think it’s ok to automate art using AI? No. Do I think it’s ok to use AI to help AUGMENT our art? Absolutely. It’s the difference between a robot and using a tool. A great example would be the paint bucket tool. Sure, we could take the time to just color it in by hand, but the paint bucket tool is just faster (if you’re just going for color and the brush used has no special texture to it). AI isn’t going away, but it doesn’t have to be an enemy. If only more effort is made to make quality of life changes FOR artists instead of putting that effort into trying to REPLACE artists.
