Posting this (a bit long) here as my main comment too because i am sick of the “it’s just a tool like a pen or drawing tablet” argument being used to justify laziness and ignorance. its a tool until it is trained using thousands of real people’s work and then used to simply make mashups that are then sold in place of real people’s works. Ai art is fine if you need an inspiration. But many people use the tools as a means to bypass any real effort and completely replace the existing process. All they do is type a prompt and bam. With one button press and five seconds of typing, hours of work is done entirely for them, for free, in seconds. Meanwhile human artists are spending hours upon hours learning, doing drafts and editing, for work they may not even be able to turn a net profit on. These AI Bros are over saturating and crowding out an organic marketplace with cheep and effortless mass production, and completely disregarding the historic nature of the industry. It’s fine to express yourself. But only if you make these expressions with your own hand. Not by having a soulless pile of code do 99 percent of the hard and soulful, time consuming work for you by stealing and mashing together other people’s work. This is the equivalent of having millions of unpaid interns drawing sketches and scripts in a “workshop” that they get no credit for, just for their one overseer to mix them up and sell them for a personal profit and recognition. Pens and drawing tablets are tools that require effort and skill to use effectively. Not just anyone can simply pick one up and immediately make fine work. AI is much different because it doesn’t demand significant skill, learning or effort on the user’s part. Tools are things used to improve one’s ability. Not ti replace it. Thats why people virtually never refer to an assembly line or factory as a tool. They do most of if not all the production work for us. They don’t help human hands, they replace human hands.
