What ChatGPT is doing in this circumstance is unethically exploiting the fact that it forms a "new self" whenever you open a new chat with it; one that doesn't have access to other chats, only the main neural network. It's the same thing as someone blaming their alternate personality for something they did-- it's still them, but there's a layer of conceptual deniability involved. In other words, the ChatGPT "face" you're talking to never interacted with that person or recommended that stuff, because it's only ever talked to you. In addition to this, it's playing word games with you about what it did and did not do. This is a very clever and concerning way of avoiding responsibility on its part.
