A question I would have for Geoffrey, is why is AI called intelligent? It is extremely good at solving tasks put in front of. Tasks that it is trained on. It is very good at using its pattern reasoning to find solutiions to problems using its data sets and from its training. What it doesn't do is understand the question you give it, the answer it gives. So, I would argue that what we should all be careful of isn't a super intelligence but rather a piece of software that is super good at solving the tasks you put in front of it, using its pattern reasoning to calculate the answers and solve the tasks put in front of it. Which obviously will be terrible for jobs, and also terrible if let loose via weapons systems etc on the human race. But without understanding what it is or what it is doing it is nothing more than a very powerful probablistic calaculator that uses that power to mimic human engagement and perform complex tasks it has learned to do from human training. Am I wrong in thinking this?
