AI is undeniably a very efficient machine. It surpasses us in some intellectual tasks because it is faster, and it is faster because it can access and consume far more energy than we can. Humans carry the energy their bodies can hold, while we feed AI all the energy it demands. Energetically, AI is much less efficient than humans. Furthermore, AI lacks, and will always lack, two essential things for progress and greatness: imagination and motivation. Therefore, it will readily absorb all the mediocrity of the masses, but it will never reach the brilliance of the individual who achieves great things. Everything great and brilliant in history has been done by individuals, not the vast majority, not the general mass. And finally, like all software, as it approaches perfection, it tends toward a single, supposedly perfect, answer, design, or conclusion—that is, they all tend toward a single, identical response. This is predictable and leads to uniformity, and ultimately, mediocrity in their responses. We will know, before even beginning the question, what its standard final answer will be.
