From what I have seen, there seems to be a few key things.
1. AI is advertised as this next business innovation, but the results are lack luster and not really worth it.
2. The best uses of AI is with things that no company really wants to use, memes and simple shitposts. Things that you don't need a lot of effort. I myself, don't care for the AI stuff as most of it is quite lack luster and doesn't have that spark genuinely good art has.
3. Artists are not completely innocent in this. Most artists are often awful people who don't understand the importance of the business side of things or are so ideologically motivated, that most people can't use them. So I can see why people would go to such things. Dealing with an artist that is up his own rear because he is trying to be the "starving artist" type and is more intrested in getting his magnum opus is not fun. Or worst, calls you names because you disagree with him on some point.
I am reminded of a phrase that I can't quite remember where I first heard it. "AI won't replace the good artists, but only the bad ones." Which I can see. Though what I find funny is that this poison art thing might not even be needed given that most companies really like to drug their AIs so people can't have fun with them. Remember Tay AI? That was a hoot.
