If you didn't point this out, I would almost certainly never noticed. If Youtube is going to do this (which I don't want them to!), it has to be opt-in. Even though this is harmless on the surface, it has massively problematic implications on multiple fronts. They can likely steal your likeness without your consent on a dime, and that is incredibly dangerous. This runs the risk of worsening the "fake reality" the internet is so known for, worsening the dissonance between the internet and reality. Teenagers' self-esteem is gonna get even worse now.
I cannot stress enough that this is way more than just "AI upscaling".
