There seems to be something missing in all those discussions. Was school really teaching critical thinking anyway, with the cramming method. I learned in spite of the classroom tenets of say 40 years ago. Autonomous learning types of topics ("hard science" stuff). Where is it not about cramming the head but teaching how to think with rigor and logic. And in my case reliance on autonomous learning from spatially deploed material on the blackboard that would liberate me from the tyranny of the time flow without spatial memory (if there was not a blckboard long temporal trace that would allow my own pace and non-linear jumping around while trying to parse the logically dense stuff. It would not halpe with topics about cramming dates, events, and glorious violent providers names that get to write history for us to veneer in absence of a basis for criticla thinking not learned yet.
only now as grown up (60) do I have the curiosity and despair emotions to look at what they might have tried to teach me in their robotic cramming and verbal strewamming assumptiopns.
math, physcis, and to a lesser extent some chemistry and some biology, and perhaps later intro to philosiphy (for scientits, get it, not the other kind from the classics, and the hald assed rethorical construct about reasoning). sorry. that was old frustratin at not being able to learn heavy nomenclatures before the real world logic it might be trying to describe. I might regret this paragraph. a bit selfish.. the rest though is more reasoned.... and trying to explain something I find from my trajectory to be missing the boat.. Yes critical thinking...
exercise. so not use the chat bots as oracles. but as bad faith persuasion machine candidate.
bring the chat bot example conversation as the object in the classroom. Teach criticl thinking.
and use caht GPT 1 to 5.. well as the classrooms get of learn other stuff (yes I am not an absolutist, just I am one dissenting data point about the "good old times" where head were filed, but sitll little success on the critical thinking, or maybe we would not have gotten with so mnay finaniaclly successful deciders going feudal and the others following and inversting like stupid morons, that don't have the tools to look under the BS.
eventually that alchmey based techonlogy with tell us or robots to do thing that we will bulieve withiout having ever done the foundational science.
So why not use the power of the many, in school. to do the job they never did. Train us to see through the persuasion mahcine.. and focus on the non-safe behavior. and the detectioln of it. While currently absent scientific research programs using real reprocible scientific methods, and many heads across the world (when science flourished and led to this technology but it got thrwon trhough the vortex of dark ages nostalgia, keeping only the shiny "precious" and refusing to look inside as long as enough mullah to keep fueling the "fuite en avant".
just make fun of the chat bot behavior. Also perhaps study how politics and media have been training them, perhaps include judicial debates of the court rooms.. The rethoric stuff, not aiming at truth, but persuasion first. truth only if it fits. otherwise win win win , till we all go Orwelian blank stares.
did any one manage to get the simple suggestion. teach how to detect bad faith.. use the machines to teach the humans ... before it is too late and the best of us can't find dissonances any more.....
