Biggest reason SWEs aren't going anywhere: someone has to know enough about the subject to make the AI do the thing.
It doesn't matter how good the AI is unless it can prompt itself like a human, which would basically be AGI. If it needs a person to prompt it, then it's only going to be as good as the prompt. And the response is only going to be as good as the person interpreting the response.
So the idea that AI will replace everyone is just not correct. What it will do is replace other means of accomplishing tasks. Much the same as an excavator didn't replace people digging, it just replaced digging large amounts of dirt using shovels. The people who were digging with shovels moved on to other tasks.
