My stance on this is the tech itself isn't bad. That fact that it is possible means it is a good stepping stone for more benifital AI tech, such as the medical tech mentioned. It is the fact that people are using it that is bad.
In the same way that the nuclear bomb was a good stepping stone in nuclear tech. The fact that the bombs themselves were used was horrendous.
