I know it's just a small consolation, but the (somewhat) same technology is already used to reliably identify deepfakes as such. I believe that in the future, at least the mainstream platforms will have tools available to automatically moderate/remove those. I guess until law enforcement catches up, deepfake creators and detectors will then have similar "technology wars" like DRMs and cracks or ads and adblockers.
Search for "2 minute papers deepfake detector" here on youtube for more information on that "counter"-technology.
