It does create jobs, the video downplayed this but didn't include all the contractors involved with construction nor the additional demand on raw materials that also increases development and thus jobs. regarding the complaints of nearby residents it's right to listen and try to reduce noise /pollution as much as possible so it is a good thing that they are speaking out and demanding change, I look at it like teething problems for a new sub-sector. To solve all energy concerns the US should fast track molten salt reactor development ASAP, it's adoption would unleash a new paradigm for energy, you talking about decentralized, carbon neutral, cheaper than coal, inherently safe, near zero waste or negative waste energy from an incredibly cheap and plentiful fuel (thorium, spent nuclear fuel). Molten salt reactors can also be used at the coast for cheap water desalination so it would help solve the water issues too. I can't imagine how badly this would have gone had the US been under a different administration especially from the energy angle, being at the forefront of innovation in AI and data seems essential now for western security so whilst it is important to listen to peoples concerns it must also be something that continues and expands.
