There are thousands of artists in the world. But it is extremely rare, if it's even possible at all, for anyone to be born with "the gift" We don't have blue blood, we are people both disabled and not who have worked hard to develop our skills. Let me say my perspective. I grew up wanting to be a marine, firefighter, basically anything that was inspirational, athletic, and life-saving. I wanted to be a hero, and craved that dream. Instead, I was put in a box because I grew up with arthritis, white matter damage, and asthma. I fought against those disabilities, but then they would get worse, especially arthritis. In turn, fighting against arthritis gave me chondrolysis during my last year of band camp because I was a percussionist who wanted to march with cymbals against the constant pain. If you don't know what chondrolysis is, it's a really painful condition in which the cartilage in your hip joint is just gone, to put it basically, and I had horrible episodes of agonizing pain including at night. A broken family and bullying also came with that. Art to me was a way to cope, still is. Despite my broken dreams, despite my issues, and the constant pain and turmoil, I found peace with putting a pencil to paper. When I found that coloring on paper was too difficult, I started doing digital art. I fought through my disabilities and for once developed a talent that can inspire people. A.I. did not go through all of that to produce it's pieces, instead it steals from artists that had to fight through similar instances to get as far as they did. Art to me is a symbol of freedom, of expression, of accomplishment, of overcoming all odds. And by the way, I'm not just talking about drawing. I have learned how to draw, paint, write, sculpt, AND make masks. Disabilities may limit a lot of things, but do not put art into that category. I wasn't "born" with that talent, I had to fight and get a lot of practice, over two decades, to get this far, and believing that we were born with it degrades everything we've been through to get that far. That's what makes REAL art, is the journey, the challenges we have faced, the emotions we have felt, and that's why A.I. will never be able to compare to it. Anyone can do art no matter what!
