This was one of the replies in that article, it's an absolute gem.
"I paid for an app called Wonder which generated digital art. I don't own the code, but I paid for the app, so it's mine now. Just like someone bought Photoshop and uses that to edit photos. Therefore, anything altered using any form of a device, say a computer or other tool should be considered artwork that can't be copyrighted. What about something created using a 3D printer? Again, a human interacted with a computer to create something. Therefore it should not be protected by copyright. Nike, as an example, uses machines run by computers to create their sneakers. Are they not protected? My point is, anything created by human input should fall under this copyright law. What if a free thinking robot makes an oil painting? Does the law say the art must be created by a human? The robot has no rights?"
