This is something I gave a lot of thought over the past 3-4 years and I did indeed hope in a future where automation means people can spend more time working. Then however I'm someone really good at keeping myself busy with hobbies and other activities, but during the pandemic I saw how some people suffers in terms of mental health when they have too much time on their hands (it's more complex than this but hope it gives the idea). I think however that automation is inevitable because other countries like China will leverage it as much as possible. So the US and Europe delaying progress to save jobs won't work. I think entertainment will be the currency of the future where people volunteering to do a job that help people will get more access to entertainment (from a gaming console to a holiday abroad, etc.). Working 32 hours is a start, but put AI together with the concept of "BS jobs" and you get the picture
