As a person who isnt familiar with the princess mananoke anime what i see in the picture comparison is the AI version uses saturation to draw attention and generate appeal, same with the expression. Compared to the original where light, colour, and expression is used to tell a story - asking you to consider the mood the colours give, what thoughts are going through her mind, the setting, what her 'character' is - all of this is hinted at in subtle ways and waiting for you to figure out the longer you look. Whereas with the AI image, the longer you look the more aparent it is that its superficially trying to make you imply your own imagined story to the picture while trying to seem as 'appealing' as possible - i see this especially in the facial expression - its open, blank and suggests an invitation of sorts rather than tells the story of who the character is...
I see the appeal of this to AI bros - you can speak your desired story into the image rather than have to 'listen' to someone else tell you whats going on in it - be it the artist or the character. Also in a super clean, no mess finely polished way unlike with real art thats often messy or does too much digging into the depths of the mind...
