as someone who is fairly skilled at writing myself, and isn't particularly against the concept of AI (just capitalism), i would NEVER use AI to write something. it takes out the joy of writing myself, the human element, and the desire for complete control over my work. i don't have an ethical problem with just using AI, but to use it for something like NaNoWriMo just seems to completely defeat the purpose. i don't have a problem to use AI for editing or proofreading, but to support completely generating content with a computer without little human interaction then acting like the human who used the AI did something incredible and impressive is obviously ludicrous. i think the only people receiving credit for AI achievements are the people who designed the AI algorithm itself. THAT is the humanity in AI. humans made it. but that doesn't mean you can just use it for anything, especially if it defeats the purpose of a challenge. the fact that NaNo won't specify this seems really weird on their part.
