'I don't eat meat in case I'm eaten' somehow captures the ethos that many adopted during these discussions. Personaly the 'circle of lilfe' makes more sense to me - which doesn't invalidate the many injunctions to treat animals in ways that are not cruel - but it also recognises that we eat in order to live and grow and personally, I don't feel bad about that (and nor do most the 'livestock' that we breed in order to have food to eat). Making parallels between the 'personhood' of companies and AI's is just plain wrong. Companies were created and given a legal fiction that separated them from their creators and owners for the simple reason that this facilitated economic growth and allowed for risk-taking that separated the consequences from the people who owned the companies, in order to encourage risk-taking. This facilitated economic growth, by shielding the owners from some of the consequences that could ensue if they engaged in such economic activity in their own names - and facilitated the creation of a legal fiction that separated the entrepreneurs from the possible consequences of the failure of their ventures. At the same time, our concern for the environment and for many of the non-human entities that share the planet with us - in ways that protects such entities from cruelty or destructive human behaviour - does not amount to granting such entities 'personhood' in any meaningful way. I enjoyed the debate, but I can't help feeling that some of the proponents exaggerated to try and make their points and that this debate is premature - it's far too early to be making such decisions and the basis on which such decisions should be made should not be some of the emotional 'tweak the heartstrings' basis that emerged during the debate. I enjoy your podcast - keep going! Mike Johannesburg, South Africa
